Taeguk Yuk Jang: The Next Step in Learning

Introduction

“Taeguk… Yuk Jang.” My black belt testing examiner tells me. I exhale. My second worst form. At least it wasn’t Geumgang. Yet. Thankfully, I had made sure to try and perfect every form before my 2nd Dan test. Or at least suck at them less. Taeguk Yuk Jang was just the one I would confuse with Palgwe Yuk Jang… or was it Sa Jang? It didn’t matter. Lucky for me, I performed it fine with only a monotone “hmmmmm….” from the master in charge of my test. Much better than the “ah. hmmmmm….” that I had come to know as the Grandmaster equivalent of a false palm.
